Marokopa.
(from our own correspondent.) Great interest is being evinced in our sports to be held on New Year’s Day. Tbe gathering should be a record one. The whole district is looking well, and if we get good burns it should look a good deal better next year. One of our young lady residents (Miis Haylock) left on a trip to the Christchurch Exhibition this wtek. I bear that Messrs Bell Bros, and Ross have disposed of about 8000 acres of Hurihari, retaining only a few hundred acres surrounding tbe flax mill. Road work is still being pushed on, five more contracts having been let last week. Messrs Rose Bros, have had the honor of sending the first lot of wool out of this port. The clip was very good. The settlers have signed a guarantee to patronise Captain Williamson’s boats for three years. Rumour is persistent to the effect that there are to be more flax mills established here. Tbe Milling Co.’s mill will be in working order before Christmas.
