Gillies, Hamilton, thanking Council for appointing him solicitor, and advising re Bagl&n County’s claim for mamtanancs of certain roads.—Received. From Dapastmoni of Lands and Survey, Wellington, stating that tbers was no reason why the quarry reaerve in the Paraw&i township should not be vested in the Council, but before that could be done it would have to bs gazetted as a reserve. Enquiries were also being made relative io other stock and mstal reserves in the county. —Received. From 3am*. statisg that the Commissioner of Crown Landa bad been instructad to clear noxious weeds off Crown sections in Kawbia.—Received. From Minister of Public Works, regretting that a £ for £ subsidy towards the Okupata road and Jervois street, Kawbia, works could not ba provid id for. A sum of £220 was on the estimates for the Okupata road, but £207 of that amount had already been authorised ; £lO5 was on the estimates for Jervois street, but that amount had been wholly expended.—Received. From F. Hosking, Kawbia, asking the council to impose a tax on hawkers and travelling “merchants.”—To be dealt with in bye-laws. From J. Kerr, Stock Inspector, ask ing that form of application for Mr Jeoklin’s slaughtering license be forwarded to Wallington at once.— The Clerk was inetructed to write to other County Councils for information on the matter. accounts. HARBOUR BOARD. The Council afterwards sat as a Harbour Board. A letter was received from tbe Te Awamutu branch of the Bank of New Zealand, stating that there was a credit balance of £23 14s 2d. Mr Newton reported that he had £l6 4s 81 in hand. Tbo Cbsirman said that the Bay of Island? County Council was the Harbour Board tor Russell and they bad been written to for information. Cr Babbage: We will have to enlarge the shed. Had it better be done out of revenue or money raised for the purpose ? The Chairman: There is about £5O in band. We can strike a rate over the whole county. Cr Babbige: You would find it would bo thrown out. Money can be raised by debentures. Ws might get some from the Savings Bank. The Chairman thought it would be better and cheaper to raise a loan. Cr H. Shew: There must be increased wharf accommodation no matter how wo get it. O’ 1 Babbage suggested writing to the Inanranaa Comp-nies.and Savings B-inki to see wb it could be done. The revenne, wFfob wa’ £6B last year, would pay interest' on a big loan. Cr Armstrong : The wharf jnust go out another 20ft., and I would like to see the lot done together.

Cr Babb ige : We will hare to make an alteration with Mr Newton. The work is worth more than be is getting for it. Tbe Chairman said that they wanted more information freHiive to 4bo endowments.
