(FROM OUR OWN CORR-C- FJNDENT.) At middvy on the 220 d inst Mr H. H. R-ynakh lost his bouse and con. tents by fire. Everybody was sway from home at tbe tima, exnept Mrs Reynolds and one of her grandsons. When the outbreak was first dißo- vered Mrs Reynolds placidly m ’e*. voared to check tbe conflagration, and placing a ladder against the Fide *of the building attack d it with buokrti of water but the flames barat through the roof severely burning her ah mt tbe face, arms and feet. The Manns from Whatawhakahoe were quickly ou the ecens, but despite energetic work nothing was saved. The origin of the fire te a mystery, as all the cooking was done oatside in a cookhouse, and the only thing that can be satraised is that the grandson, who was sent inside for a match, might haye struck one and dropped it. There had been no fire in the house for several days past. The cookhouse and seme outbuildings near by were also demolished. A small insurance was ou the house, but none on tbe furniture. Great sympathy is expressed for Mr and Mrs Reynolds who are both getting on in years. The weather of late has been hot and sultry, but last Saturday night and Sunday a nice steady rain fell, which did a great amount of good to the erops. Oats are looking well and tbe harvest pr imides to be a good one. Farmers are busy drilling in their turnip seed, taking full advantage of the good weather. The potato blight has made its appearance in tbe district, but the very early potatoes escaped it, being ready for digging before the blight came.
