All black From an even start the field got well under way, but had not gone far before Pickwick and Cork Pool tailed off, whilst Big Break was also soon in the ruck. Coming round the far bend Last Chance and Doughboy took the lead, whilst Interpreter, Chips and Piccolo Charlie held a good position. At this 3 1 . age the remainder of the field bad strung out considerably, and it was seen that only tho five horses mentioned would have a iay at the finish. Swinging round the home bend into tbo straight Last- Chance and Doughboy were still running neck and neck on tho rails, wi’h Interpreter, Piccolo Charlie and Chip Close behind them. Whips were out Bad cracking and the hoarse cry of the people proclaimek first cne and then another as victor, but Last Chance, who had been bandied beauti just squeezed home by a nose, after a splendid race, |with Doughboy second, Interpreter third, Chips fourth, whilst Piccolo Charlie just caught the judge’s eye ahead r.f Sawbones and Chuff Chuff. The rest of the field were distanced, Cork Pool being abso* lately last. The race seemed to give general satisfaction all the favourites securing tbo positions, and it was tho punter’s day out without a doubt. Time—B hours 59min. 58secs. Betting—Evens Last Chance, 2 to 1 "Doughboy, 3 to 1 Interpreter and Chips, 4 to 1 Piccolo Charlie, 20 to 1 others, The money on tho tote was impounded, and it is probable the Svent will bavo to be re-run.;
