An advertisement in ibis issue announces that nominations for the above close on Wednesday, October 7th, and that the election takes place on the 14tb. Mr J. K. Newton has been appointed returning officer. For the informa'ion cf our readers it might be stated th st the first elee tion gives every person whose name appears en the Parliamentary roll and who reside within the certain prescribed area the privilege nf voting. After the first elect'on rr*ly ratepayers are entitled to a vote.
Already the election is causing a certain amour( f interest, and from all accounts there should be a large number of candidates. So far the only gentleman who has definitely ststed his intention to the eko tion is Mr E. 0. Filwasser, who an nounces the fact in our ndverii-ing columns. The names of Dr Jenkins, Messrs M'Oirdle, Turrell, Jonalh n, W. Morgan, Wetere and Hamilton are also mentioned as likely aspirants for a seat on tha B 'ard Both Mr W. A Mason and Mr J.
