THE COUNTY BYE-LAWS.
(to the editor.) Sir,—ln your iasue of the 19th inat. appears a letter headed as above and signed by “ R.1.P.”, which seems to have caused some disquietude in our sweet and would-be tt.I.P. of New Zealand—favoured place of rest, joy and happiness. Upon first glance me thought it showed a distinct spirit of cam- belli— but upon more careful perusal the justice of a call to arms by the R I.Peaoers of Kawhia makes the hills ring with the echo of, ‘ Where are the bye - laws of the Kawhia County ? Why should the reapers come with scythe and sickle gathering where they have not sown? and Why, oh why, taka the ready money from those who already have their bills unpaid in honest, rate, taxpaying pioneers ot your township ? Independent cf commercial pursuits at present, Sir, I have passed along the road in the years for ever flown, and would ask your Council to answer tbe question put to you, by immediately framing their bye-laws, and go prevent the carrion to prey upon the lamb.—Yours, etc., DEFENCE, NOT DEFIANCE.
