In th® issue before us we notice the following letter, under tbe beading of “ Explanation —“ Sir,—Kiudly allow me to draw attention to an error which has appeared in one or two issues of your newsy little paper. You state that tho Press is the first newspaper printed iu the King Uouetry It is not ; 1 havo now before me a copy of the first paper oiroukted in this great King Country, and will forward ’t to you for perusal if detired, viz , the Kawhia Settler, printed and pubiisln-d by Mr T. E Wilson, under the management of the la e lamented W, Murray Thomson. The first issue appeared on April 24. 1901. By publishing this you will oblige An ex Kawhiaite.” Thh editor ntiacbes the following footnote : “ We hasten to < ff r our apology for error occurring iu our atatement that 1 the Press is the first paper published in the King Country,' which was due io omitting the word * Upper,’ and thank our correspondent for calling attention to the fact.”
The proprietor of the Waikato Time*, with commendable enterprise, has increased the size of that paper by leugtbiug the c damns and making the pages nine columns iu lieu of eight. The enlargement will no doabt be appreciated by the many subscribe rs ot the Times.
