It w*3 stated that there was not the interest taken in this matter in the Waikato that there should be, and also that many people had not recognised the importance to that part«which the construction of this line was.

Mr Pettit suggested that if env®velopes were circulated with the adadvantages of this railway printed thereon it would tend to keep it before the public, and it w»s resolved that the suggestion be acted upon. The secretary was directed to write to the Chambers of Commerce at Wellington, ChrHtchurch aud Dunedin asking their support, and to point ou» to them the cheup way that (he line would afford of placing southern produce in the Upper Waikato. Some of those present stated that Auckland wu against the line, but Air M‘Cardle said that tbe project had the support of Mr Mitcheleou and Mr Myers, the former having to'd him that he thought Kawhia had a grand future, as with tbe fine harbour and •plendid country inrroanding it it would one day be a place of great importance. (Hear, bear.) Mr Scott thought it should be made known th .t Kawbia waa the nearest

port to Australia, and if the maili were brought to Kawhia from there over a day would be saved, which wan a great consideration. This fa«.-t alone ehc uld be of great value to the whola colony, as prompt delivery of oversea mails was of vast importance Dr Jenkins said that the New Zt.-< land Shipping Company recognised Kawhia ms a splendid harbour and ha belieyed that as soon as there were sufficient exports their ships would call in.—The secretary was instructed to write the company on the subject, after which the meeting adjourned.

With regard to the request of tho Kawhia County Council, asking that the frequency of th® mail service to Te Maika, Awaroa and Kinohaku be increased to twice weekly, Sir Joseph Ward writes “ The Chief Postmaster al.Auckland ia arranging to obtain from all launch proprietors concerned tenders for twice-weekly as well an onco-weekly mail services to and from all poet offices around Kawbia Harbour. When tenders come in the matter will be given every consideration.” '
