A RECENT TUG-OF-WAR.
(to the editor.) Sir,—1 noticed in your issue of April 20th a huge mistake ooncerning the tug-of-war which I took place m at Kinohaku. It was a disgrace to get beaten like we did, as right from the start the married men had the best of it and won straight away, but the judges being single men and knowing the state of affairs, did not like giving it to them. There were only twelve married men on the ground, eleven of whom pulled, and one of this number was over 55 years of age. We bad 80 to pick from. The married men got it about 2in. over the lino, but with the assistance of feet stuck out for us to get ours against wo managed to hold them for about 10 minutes, when another chipped in on our side, and with this help we managed to shift them aud won, of course am’da 1 great cheers. A goad argument set in but we bluffed our opponents by wanting to pull them over again, but I think they wars more fit than we were, for one of ouj team left as soon as it was over and was very unwell for a long time Knowing you are a popular man, Mr Editor, 1 would like your assistance, as I don’t like my position as a single man since' this tug-of-war, and 1 believe there are a lot more of the team of that same opinion, perhaps more in particular the judges. If you could introduce us to some young lady matrimonally inclined I for one Would pull for the married men next year. Enclosed pleetsc find list of the ■ingle team.—Yours, etc., SINGLE MAN.
