Shaw, P, Boss J, Shaw, It indeed unfortunate tbit tbe Kinohaku Sporte Committee chose EVid ly last as the day upon which <to hold their first carnival, had it been “itbor Thursday or Siturday baiu iful weather would have prevailed. Friday, however, was a miserable, cold day, s great deal of rain falling, fierce sq mils being prevalent. Noth withstanding this tact about 200 people were present on the ground at Lemon Point, about 75 of that number beiog Kiwhiaites, who deserve credit for braving the elements on such a day. A large number of entries had been received, and considering everything the number of competitors wa; eat id factory, especially in the chopping events, where some excellent axework was shown. Bussell, who “ scooped tbe pool," proved himself a capable axeman, and with experience should become better than the average, and help to maintain the world wide reputation in this direction which other Tasmanians have established. The sailing race (although ooly three boats started, one of which capsized) was an interesting event, the skillful manner in which Messrs Neilson senior and junior handled their crafts in the squally wind and heavy *ea being a treat to witness. Each official carried out the duties allotted to theta in a satisfactory manner, and everything went off without a bitch. Owing to the lengthy programme the Kinohaku Championship could not ba decided and will be chopped off at a later date. There were a couple of “ bookies " in attendance, but we do not think that much surplus cash got into their bags Perhaps the most popular “ event ’’ of the day was the refreshment booth, which was at all times well patronised, and especially so when it was rainiug. Misses Turnbull and Nesbitt were in charge and must be complimented on the high quality of the refreshments provided, which were equal to anything we have seen on a sports ground in New Zealand.
