At present tbo members of the Oparau Glub are busily engaged playing a tournament for a tropby presented by Mr rettit. M Prentice ... „ Mmh Sy moos ... „ Mrs Newton ... 30 pts On Wednesday last tbe Oparau team commenced a match against the Kawbia Club, but, unfortunately, the g&me had to be adjourned owing to rain setting tn. The following gauttH were played ; Falwasser and Howes (K) beat Crotty and Jourdain ( J), 40—80 Jonathan (K) beat Jourdain (0), 40-87 Pettit (O) boat 14‘Oartby (K), 40— 35 When the rain commenced the following games were in progress :-stFidwasser (K), and E. Forbes (0), 15— 10; Howes (K) and Crotty (0), 15—9 ONE CLUB FOR KAWHIA. For tbe past year or two tbe tenn : « players of Kawhia have been divided into two clubs, and tbe number in each being so small it was thcught acl visabio to frrm a new club, and with this object a meeting was held in Scott’s Hall on Wednesday evening last, when about a dozen pkyera attended, Mr Barron being voted to th? chair. After Mr Jonathan (the convener) had explained tbe position, it was resolved that a new club be formed in K&whia, to bo called the Kawbia Harbour ciub; that all members of tbe two Kawbia clubs be reecgoised ar members of tbe new club; that the subscripkion fee be 10s for gents, 5 for ladies and 2s 6d for juniors 15 years ‘ that the club take over tbe grounds of tbe Kawhia club at Tr Puru, and have same vested in trustees (Messrs Mason, Jonathan and F. Newton); that existing anmgements between the old clubs and Oparau, relative to matches, be continued : that the colours be pale blue and white ; that rules be drawn up by the executive and submitted to a meeting of members; that the opening day be March 21st; that the secretary and Chairman of committee arrange the sets on playing days (Wednesdays and Saturdays) ; that a levy of 6d each be made for marking courts ; that tbe council be asked to make a proper track to the grounds. The following officials were elected : —Patron, the Rt. Hou. R. J. Seddon; president, Mr W. A. M«.son ; vicepresidents, Messrs H. J. Greenslade, M. H R., and F. W. Lang; executive committee, Messrs F. Newton, Fal wasear, Jonathan, M‘oartby and D. Baird ; ladies’ committee, Mesdames Newton, Howes, M’Cariby, Barron and Miss Stevens ; secretary and treasurer, P. J. M'Cariby. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
