Matthew, cl 1 k 9H|ii Coii'ity Couccil, and Daul chairman, asking that a arranged at Raglan to consider tnM .severance of a portion of the Kawhiipl County, or a payment for the construction and up-keep of certain Raglan road s such roads being the sole outlet f>r many of the Kawhia ratepayers.— Cr Jonathan : Tbe proposal u imos from Raglan, so I think tbe delegates ought to come here. —Cr Armstrong : Can the Council do anything, or can they only give' effect to the wish of those interested?—Cr M’Cardle : At present we could only listen to the proposals. Ido not know what our legal position is in this matter.—Ur Jonathan favoured leaving the matter of severance to those interested to decide. If they wanted it the council should agree to it. It-would be a good idea to meet on the boundary.—Cr Armstrong : The settlers interested do not want to go into the Raglan County because the rate will be heavier.—See motion. From Valuation Departmeu., forwarding account for £5O tis thecounty’s share for revising the Valuauation Roll of the County.—Tbe Chairman : That can very well stand over.—Cr Armstrong : Let it Le paid out of the special grant of £12,000 that we are going to get.— Cr Jona than : Yes ; as discount.—Held over. From Department of Lando and Surveys, enclosing lithograph of the county, and asking that all county roads be marked red. Tbe information was required for the purpose of adjusting tbo thirds account.—The Clerk stated tliat be had replied to the effect that the whole of the roads in the county were under its control. From Hans Boesen, Oparau, suggesting that tho council make repre santations to the Postmaster-General for a tri-weekly mail service to Kawhia m lieu of the bi-weekly as at present. The ooach was running to and from Pirongia three times a week, and with a little extra subsidy he would carry mails the third time—The Chairmyn saih that Mr Boesen had mentioned tho matter to him, fixing the extra subsidy required at £4O or £5O. A similar request had been made by the residents, but the amount asked by the contractor then was too high.— Cr Jonathan : It would ba convenience.—Bee motion. From J. K. Logan, Superintendent for Electric Line.-, a - follows :—“ I have the honour to refer to my letter of the 28th October last, conceoniog your application for telephonic communication between Kawhia and Opa rau, Awaroa, (llauturu, ‘Kiiiobakuj Te Maika, and Te Rauamoa, and to inform you, by direction, that Government has now approved the desired telephone extension being made without a guarantee against loss being called for. Instructions have accordingly been issued for the work to be put in hand as early as practicable.”— Received.
From J. E, Scott and J. 0. Berg, Kawhia, asking council to take steps to ascertain if the council had tqe power to proclaim tbe sea beach, fronting their sections and that of Mr Mason, a public highway, so as they would be able to register their leases, registration of which was refused owing to there being no access according to law. —The Chairman said that this was a very important matter. The Clerk had written for information, which had not as yet been supplied.—Held over awaiting reply. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment :—Government Printer ] 9s, Raglan Chronicle 10s, Imperial Paper Co. £1 10s, G. Whitcombe £6 Is, H. Pettit £1 10s, W. Morgan 10s.. MOTIONS. Jonathan, H. Shaw That the. Postal Department be approached in reference to tbe mail service via Pirongia, with a view to establishing a tri-weekly service instead of the present bi-weekly, and that this resolution be forwarded to Mr H. J. Greeoslide, M.H.R., with a request that he use his influence in the matter, Jonathan, H. Shaw—That in reference to the proposal of the Kaglan County Council re the northern boundary, this council will favourably consider any -petition that may bo presented by tho settlers interested •in tbo area mentioned. At tho same time this council would bo agreeable to meet a deputation from tho Raglan County in Kawhia on a date *io be arranged to discuss the matter.' Armstrong, Jonathan—That Mr J. Wright be asked to refund amounts paid to Messrs Whitcombe and Morgan Armstrong, Jonathan That Mr Whitcombe bo asked to band over the balance of tho stationery not already received by Mr Newton. Jonathan, 11. Show—Re (dedication of roads on foreshore: That if tbe Colonial Becrotary's reply does not adequately eopo with the question, a I legal opinion bo obtained from Mr H. Gillies, of Hamilton. Jonathan, M’Uardlo— That the clerk write to Mr Greenslade, M.H.K, re ge ting the money vated fur road to Kawhia wharf (£75 voted on the Supplementary Estimates, also £6O in the hand; of wharf trustees and recommended by them to be added to the £75) expended, also to ask him if ho will try and got the various grants made to the different ridings iu the Kiwhyi, C.muty, and for snagging the Marakopa River not yet expended, spent as soon as possible ; alao to thunk him for bis assistance re telephone communication rounl ths harbour.
