OPARAU V. KAWHIA. DEREOOURT SCOREb 106. For the third time this season, the above clubs met at Kawhia on Saturday last, when the result was, contrary to anticipations, a hollow victory for the home team by an innings and 38 runs. The game was notable for some heavy and fast scoring, and for the fact that Fred Dc-recourt put up 106 the highest individual score compiled locally, and, perhaps, in the King Country. Crotty and Pearaon were th# respective captains. Oparau won the toss and sent Kawhia to the wickets, Pearaon and F. Derscourc opening, the partnership not being dissolved till 39 runs had been registered. Whitcombe, the next man, only lasted two balls, the vacancy being filled by F. Newton. A splendid stand was made by these two bate men the total being 118 before the former retired with 42 to his credit, made iu splendid style. Mr “ Sundries” added 14,the innings dosing for 204. Derecourt played a splendid innings, and gave as nice an exhibition of cricket as could ba seen anywhere. He was fortunate for a a;art, be skyed one, which would have bean held by Russell, but for Crotry going for it too. As he had only made sat the time time hia let off was very expensive. He played right through the innings, and was eventually bowled by Armstrong. Uparau replied with 42, Moki 14 and Sundries 10 being the double figure ■corers. On following on they did much better, malting 124 before the last wicket tell. Of this number Jourdain made 27 by patient and masterly cricket, the other double figure scorers being—Symons 20, U. Vernon 16, M >ki 14 and Sundries 15. In recognition of Mr Derecourt’# feat, the members of the local dub presented him with a haL the oer#monj being performed in the evening at the Settles office by Captain Pearson, wicb was suitably acknowledged by the recepient.
