Sucessful Matinee.

The matinee, held in Bcbt».’e Mall on Tuesday last, ftr the purpose of allowing the relatives' and friends of the pupils of Miss Beswick the privi vilege of herring them perform in piib’fo and noria* the "regrccs made, was a successful event in every respect. There was a large attendance, the majority being ladies. The ball was fixed up as a drawing room, the ap pearance being particularly pleasing. Rev R. Mitchell presided and was particularly happy in that capacity. The pwriormanue uf the pupils was very good, every item being rendered correctly and well, whilst the applause accorded (particularly to the younger performers) was bath genuine and merited. Miss Beswick is to be congratulated upon the success of her pupils, for it pruned her to ba a correct and painstaking teacher. It is not necessary to individualise the various items, but a special word is due to the last numbar, “ Three Old Maids From Lee,” which was splendidly acted and, caused much merriment. The programme was as follows :

Pianoforte duet, “ Westward Ho,” Mrs M‘Carthy and Miss Perham ; solo, ' “ Ed.-iiwehs,” Alias Whitcomb; song, Miss Perham ; duet, “ The Shepherd’s Evening Song,” Misses Pearson and D. Whitcombe; solo, “ Gigue,” Miss Pearson ; duet, “ The Harmonious Blacksmith,” Misses Morgan and Whitcombe ; vocal duet, ” He Wipes a T«ar From Every Eye,” Misses Beewick and Perham ; solo, “ Beethoven’s Adieu,” Master Frank Newton ; duet, “ Carl Engeil’s No. 8 and 9 Duet,” Miss Scott and Miss Pearson; duet, “ Swinging Waltz,” Misses I. Falwaseer and D. Whitcombe ; solo, ‘‘Biver Song,” Miss Perham ; duet, “ The Heaven’s Are Telling,” Misses Berwick and D. Scott; solo, ” Beethoven’s No. 15 Waltz,” Master H. Whitcombe; “ The Three Maids of Lee,” sung by Miss Beswicic, and acted by Miss Perham and the ‘Misses Whitcombe. Afternoon tea was handed round and a very happy time was spent. in the evening a dance was held, when a large number attended, the fun being kept up till about 1 a.m.
