(VBUM oca OWN COBaESPONDBMT.) Mr H. J. Greenslade addressed e meeting of settlers at the Government pa tiki, at tbe head af the Kiritehnra stream, on Friday, 20th inst. Afa V number of settlers were present, Mr John Wouldes in the chair. The candidate declared himself a supporter cf the Seddon Government and the taeeh 'ld tenure ; if elected be would do all in bis power to pet roais constructed for ths back block settle •?, and also to get the Government to purchase native land for eloper settlement. The meeting was not very entausiasvic, and p issed a vote of thauks to tbe cand:« date for hie address. Mr Greenslade created a very favourable personal impression.—What the settlers cannot s.e is o how rhe present member (Mt Lang) is to blame for the non-expau-diture of road grants, aud the insufficiency of the road votes pat on tbe Estim'.ces, a? the G verniueni candidate would have them believe, but tbs settler? blame tbe Government, and nottha member, who has done his best for tba district. Tbe candidate did not tell tbe meeting that tbe Government placed £BOO,OOO on the Estimates for roads last year, bat only spsnt about £160,000, carrying about £140,000 to swell th i surplus ; that all the Ministers voted against freehold in the recent debate on the land question ; and that a complete Soothers Ministry ruled the country. After the meeting some of the settlers interviewed Mr Burd, Road Engineer, on road matters, and he informed them that it was th« intention of tbe Roads Department to press on with the construction as quickly as funds will permit. The Grown Lands Board, decided at their last meeting to throw open for selection tbe bush reserves in the Kiritebere block at an early date. In« tending selectors would do well to send to the Crown Lands Office for all particulars. These sections vary in size from 450 to 640 acres.

The tracks are almost impassible owing to the heavy rains.
