BEFORE THE HOUSE. Bt Tklkgkm'll. • SPECIAL TO THB S«T£LUU WELLUMrrjr, Thurs., Oct. 19. The Public Petitions Committee, in reporting on ths petition of A. W. Babbage and 399 others praying for a railway to the Kawhia Harbour, recommended that the Government be ’i«ked to take the matter into thsir favourable consideration, with a request that tho line be surveyed. Mr Lang spoke strmgly in support >f the recommendation, and impressed upon the House the neoossity ofc having the work done, Tuere was no excuse for the Government not going on with it. This was the time, at ihe beginning of fins weatha?, for undertaking work of this kind, and. he sincerely hoped the Government would put the work in baud immeliately. Eventually the House decided to refer the report to th&Govsrnmsnt fol favourable consileration.
