from our own cokhespondest. On Wednesday, September 27th, the newly-erected steel bridge over tha Mangapiko stream was opened for public traffic. Quite a large numbsf of people from all the surrounding districts assembled, and speeches were delivered by the, Waipa County Chairman (Mr John Fish ar) and Cr Rybura, after which the ribbon was out by Mrs Allen, Pirongia’s oldest inhabitant. After the ceremony the children all marched io the Public Library, where lunch was served to them, after which races, ofc., were contested. The ladief were served with afternoon tea, and a public banquet was held in the LW brary, nt which the usual toasts were honoured. In the evening a dance Wii3 held, and thus terminated a most pleasant and enjoyable day. Daring the past two weeks the weather has been very cold and wet, accompanied with strong westerly gales. Dairyman are complaining of the shortage in milk and feed. A change in the weather would be very aoosptable.
