MONTHLY MEETING.
The second meeting of tha Waitomo County Council was held In Hettet's Hall, at Te Kuiti, on Monday, the IBtb inst. The full Council was present as follows Crs. A. Scholes, A.
C. MoCard’e. N. I. Hunt, D. H. Lusk, Jeremiah Ormsby, F. F. Thompson and W. J. Hoffman. Or. Scholes, who was elected chairman at tbe first meeting, occupied tha chair. Cr. Scholes resigned bis position as chairman in order to give the member for M iiroa (Cr. Lusk), wno was elected after the first meeting took place, a voice in the electron of chairman. Sanies moved as an an-niment to laa-o out the words “ of £8) per annum and 3 per cent” and to add tha word “ salary" the Words “ to be stated by tbe applicant.”—Or Hoffman seconded.—The amendment was l>st, only the myver and -econ er voting for it, and the motion was then curried.
The chairman movud, That the place for holding the Council’s meetings, also the Council’s office be at Ta Kuiti.—Cr. Ormsby seconded. Cr. Thompson stated seeing chat they were not in funds to build an office he approached Mr J. W. Ellis for tbe am J hie office at Otorobanga, which is now vacant, with the result that be h id kindly offered to let tbe Council have it for two years at the nominal rent of 5s per annum. He would therefore move that tbe offer be ac cepted, and that *.he said office be tbe council’s office, as well ae the place for bolaiog its meetings.—Cr, Hjffman seconded. Cri. Scholes, Thompson, and H iffmau voted for tbe ameidmint, and Crs. Hunt, Ormsby and McOardle against it. Tha chairman gave his vote against the amendment and de clare 1 it lost.—The chairman than asked leave to delete from his original motion, the words, 44 Also the Council’s office ” which was agreed to. The Council then divided on tbe motion, and the voting again being equal the chairman gave his vote in favour of the motion aud declared it carried.
It was resolved to hold the next meeting in Mr Hettet’s Hall at 6.30 p.m., on Monday, October 16th. Cr. Scholes gave notice to move at the next mooting. That a rate of Jd io tha £ be struck on the whole of ttn rateable property in the County, Or. McCardle moved, seconded by Cr. Hoffman, Thai in consequence of the inadequate amounts appearing on the estimates for various important works throughout tbe County, tbe chairman be instructed to communicate with the Government and sub* mit a list of the most important works, with a view io further grants being placed upon tbe aupptemeutry Esh. mates.—Carried.
