A meeting of the members of the Kawhia Club will ba nelcF in tbe Ski tler Office next Wednesday, October 4tb.

As.the. time for tbe commencement of play draws nearer, activity is being -hewn by the members of the various clubs io the district. The members oil

the Kawhia Club have recently been making valuable improvements to their o urts, which are‘certain to be iu excellent condition this season. Several working bees haie been held, and included in the work accomplished is the planting of a rdw of willows as a break wind. The Oparau Club, which has only recently been foftned, promises to be a strong ona, and alrecdy oyer 30 members have joined. Mr Lang, M.H.R , has forwarded a guinea, whilst the president (Mr Elliott) has donated*£2 2 s towards tbe funds. Mr Pettit has given a trophy for competition by members. It is expected that games will be pl avert against the Kiwhia clubs during tbe o lining season. To formally celebrate tbe formati n of the club, a ball will be hold on October 13th,. at Kawhia. Altogether matters appear so bright for the Oparau tennis enthusiasts, that it is safe to predict a brilliant future for the club. ANNUAL MEETING OF KAWHIA COUNTY CLUB. The an.aual meeting ot the above club was held in Mr Pearson’s office on September 19th, when a fair number of members and intending members were in attendance, Mr Pearson presiding. A report of last year’s business was read by the secretary and confirmed. It showed that there was a credit balance of nearly £4 after all expenses bad been paid. The membership roll was 50, 40 of whom had paid up. The Secretary (Mrs Newton) received a vote of thanks for the able manner in which she carried out her secretarial duties

It was resolved to open the season with a ball; also to fence the court and re-turf it where necessary. ” Tbe following officers were elected tor the ensuing season ;—Patron, Mr H. J. Greensiade i president, Captain Blacklock ; vice-presidents, Rev. R. Mitchell, Captain Coutts and Mr R. Barron ; secretary, M?a Newton ; executive, Mesdames Pearson, Symons and Newton, Messrs Turvey and F. Newton.

Votes of thanks were accorded Mrs Symons and Mr -Jourdain for use of their ground, part of which was used as the court last season ; also to Miss Muriel Symons for tfie valuable assistance at afternoon teas.

The Secretary was instructed to wait on the owners of the courts and make arrangements with them re tbe coming season. A eucceaaful meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
