Wellington, Thursday, 4.56 p.m. The petition of A W. Babbage, A. Armstrong and others in favour of railway connection between the Main Trunk Line and the Kawhia Harbour was presented to tbe House by Mr Lang, at whose request it was read by tbe Clerk and referred direct to the Publie Petitions Committee in order that it might be dealt with as soon as possible. During the consideration of th© Electoral Bitt in committee, attempt© were made first to abolish native representation in the South Island and next to have Maori election conducted on the same system as those of European, but in both instances were resisted by the Government and defeated by a large majority.
