Rifle Shooting.

RAGLAN M.R. V. KAWHIA R.O.

The above match was a fixture for Tuesday, but owing to the wet weather a postponement was made until the following day, when the match was fired unJer ideal shooting conditions. The match was seven men aside, seven shots and one sighter (not counted) at 200, 800 and 500 yards, and victory went to the Kawhia team by 111 points. The victors shot well, averaging about 75 (a splendid performance), whilst P, Bell’s record of scoring 98 out of a possible 105 is worthy of special comment. The visitors seemed to be all astray at finding their ranges. The scores were as follows :

On Tuesday night the visitors were entertained at a dinner at Mrs Perham’s Hotel Moana. Afterwards a smoke ooncert was held, presided over by Mr J. E. Scott, when the following tong'a were honoured :—“ The King,” proposed by the Chairman : “ The Visitors,” proposed by Captain Pearson, acknowledged by Captain Norton; “ The Ladies,” proposed by Mr R. Nicholson, responded to by Mr W. Tait; ” The Army and Navy,” proposed by Mr P. Bell, acknowledged by Mr W. Vernon. .The company dispersed-at an eaily hour, after having spent an enjoyable evening.
