Kawhia School Committee.
The usual monthly meeting of the above committee was held at the Settler Office on Tuesday evening isth, when there were present— Rev. R. Mitchell (in the chain, Messrs Turrell, Pettit, Howes and F. Newton. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The Education Board wrote about several matters as follows: (1) The painting of the residence will be undertaken in due course. (2) Indian clubs and dumb-bells will be supplied upon requisition being made on the printed form. (3) 1 have to state that the Board cannot see its way to appoint a Local Truant Officer ; but I have to refer the committee to Section 147 of “ The Education Act, 1904 ” wherein it is enacted that “ any member of a School Committee or the Secretary of a School Committed may lay information, make complaints, conduct prosecutions, and taae all other proceedings ” to enforce regular attendance at School.”—The last item wm productive of discussion, but none of the members seemed anxious to accept the position. From Mr Durham, stating that the ground was becoming overrun with furze and ti-tree, the fence needed repairing, and a door-mat and filter ware required.—Referred to Board. From Same, stating that ha intended starting a garden at the school and asking that it be fenced and a few shrubs supplied.—Granted ; fence not to exceed £3. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to tbe amount of 17s 9d were passed for payment. Messrs Gosling and E. Falwasser were appointed to vacancies on the committee. Tbe meeting then adjourned.
