THE Kawhia Settler FRIDAY, AUGUST 11, 1905. PROGRESS LEAGUE.
The requirements of a rapidly-pro-gressing district such as this are many and varied, and if the barbojjr of Kawhia is to take its place with tbe leading pons of New Zealand we must rouse ourselves and use every legititimate means to obtain many desirable h»pro?o3M)Ms. Our mail service if, r f ot too sat’sfaotciEy at the present time; Kawbia require more than a a -bi-weekly service, wSilst Awaroa, Te afa,k “ “ re sur J ly ‘ h “ once a week. The e reserves th a at she .pres*! such a hindrance (fUd-fi' menace also) to those or, the land is a matter that requires immediate and united agitatation : the locking up of such large and valuable tracts of country acts as a break on the wheels of progress, and even now fcbijj injustice is severely felt, which will be,jutes rifled as the holdings are further improved, telephonic communication between tbe .various places around the harbour is absolutely necessary, and mast be provided ere much more time has elapsed. Such a league with strong committees and members actuated by a sincere and unselfish desire to advance tbe district can do wonders. It could attend to many other such as securing a wharf obtaining a road to Oparau., snaggift? Ihe river8 ’ e!c Our experience us that tPai£iament and individual members never .refpac to consider requests made by a body ,qf I mon with a powerful voting power behind st The Progress League should consist of members from every part and corner of tbe district, and the meetings should he held regularly. Given energetic officers andcommitise the League would achieve incredible good to the district, and dispel the
