VETERANS V. CADETS. '
The above match, which has been tbe topic of conversation for some weeks passed, came off on the Maketu ground on Saturday last, and resulted in tbe downfall of the vets by 6 points to 8. The day was not particularly suitable for people to undertake the walk from Kawhia, though from a footballers point of view it was an ideal one. There were about 100 onk ykers, amongst whom were quite a number of the fair sex, who appeared to take keen interest in the game, and applauded theii* favorites right heartily. Mr Vv. A. Morgan as fullback was responsible for some excel len>\ work, especially when Hodgson was to be stopped. In connection with the match a social was held on Friday night, and' well attended. The hall was nicely decorated for the occasion with native greenery, and presented a nice appearance. Mr Jonathan (piccolo) and Miss Stevens (piano) provided excellent music, at times being relieved and assisted by Misses Godsell and Yells, and Messrs Pearson, Go ding and Coe. Tho supper supplied by Mr Turrell was of an excellent character. Mr Gosling was very happy as M.C. Gn Saturday evening another dance was held, and waseven better attended than .the previous one. The music w-w supplied by the same ladies and gentlemen, and Mr Pearson was M.C. Altogether the football and danco were very enjoyable, and a word of praise is necessary to Mr W. A. Gosling, the energetic secretary, who worked (as is usual with anything be tfikos m hand) very zialously, and tFe thanks of all are due to him, '.
