The Kawhia County.

As tbe day on which nominations close approaches, interest in tbe election for the Kawbia County councillors is increasing, and at tbe time t f writing everything points to the fact that there will be several contests, in fact, it is now thought that only Messrs W. J. Shaw (Waiharakeke) and A. W. Babbage (Awaroa) will be allowed the honour of being returned unopposed. For the Tabarca Riding, Mr R. A. M'Cardle has definitely decided to be come a Candida’©, and announce a the fact in another column. The candi dature of Mr Flamank is not taken at a’l seriously, bnt Mr E. C. Falwasser has agreed to off*r his services to the ratepayers of this riding. It is not definitely known yet whether Mr H Shaw or Mr J. P. Wright will be nominated but one of these gentlemen is certain to be. For the Matakowhai Riding there are numerous candidatee, and the contest is expected to be keenly contested, whikt the result is also expected to be very close. Some of the Oparau set tiers are not satisfied with the candi dates chosen at the last meeting, and another gathering is to be held to morrow (Saturday) to again ventilate tbe matter, aud see if a select!o i can nut be made which will be unanimously accepted by those m >st interested, Still another candidate ha.bien mentioned, this time from tbe other side of tbe county, the ratepayers near Te Mata havi .g notified their intention of nominating Mr A. N. Norton. So far there is no one definitely selected to represent the ratepayers o( Te Kauri. The majority of the set tiers want Mr J. Noonan to allow him s lf to be nominated, but that gentle man does not feel inclined to accept the honour. If Mr Noonan will not come forward the selection will devolve upon Mr F. A. Pearson.
