Great Japanese Naval Victory.
Special Telegh to the Settler. (Received Tuesday, May 80, 2.15 p.m.) Roshdestvensky’s fleet have been practically annihilated. Admiral Diebogatoff and 3000 Russians were taken pt Joners. Two Russian battleships and 11 others were sunk ; two battleships and four others captured. Three Japanese cruisers sunk or totally disabled. The fight is still proceeding. The Russians sank an American boat on the 21st inst., to prevent in* formation being given. The opinion in America is that it is a second Dogger Bank outrage. President Roosevelt is enquiring into the matter at Bk. Petersburg. (Received Wed. May 31, 3.35 p.m.) Details of recent naval battle confirm the absolute defeat of the Russians. Reported Russian ship Kinaz Suvaroff with Rosbdestvensky aboard has been sunk. Another report states that Roshdestvensky was wounded and transferred to a torpedo destroyer: The Russians have lost 19 vessels—either sunk or captured. The news has not yet been announced in Russia. (Received Thur* June 1, 8.40 p.m.) Admirals Rosbdestvensky and Folkereahm both captured by the Japanese, who sank all Russian battleships except two, which they captured. The Gromboli, coming from Vladivostok to assist Admiral Roshdestven - sky, struck a Japanese mine and sank, with Admiral Skyrdloff and 800 men aboard.
