According to the Government Gazette, Messrs John Old and Jonn William Ellis have been appointed members of the Assess aent Court for the special districts of the Counties of Kavhia and Awakino. All ladies interested in promoting a .dpnee on the evening of the £4tb inst., in aid of the Kawhia Publfc'Library, are requested to attend a meeting to be held in Scott's Hall at 3 p.m. on Saturday next (to-morrow).
At tbe Te Awamutn Races Test week, tbe locil horse, Tbe Doo, fell in tbe Hurdle Race when leading by a dozen lengths. Mr A. M'Cardle's Mangahoe ran second to the Auckland mare Idas in tbe Kibikihi Plate.

The Royal Ho:el at Raglan, and Gilmour’s store adjoining were destroyed by fire on Saturday night last. Tbe fire is said to have originated in thu hotel. It is said that the hotel also caught fire on Friday night, but tbe flames wore then extinguished. Ou Friday afternoon last the final tennis matches for the trophy presented by Miss Stevens, were played on tbe courts of the Kawhia Lawn Tennis Club, when Mr Pettit met and defeated Dr Jenkins by 50 to 45 and Mr Gosling by 50 to 29, thus winning the trophy. Last week’s Goyernmeet Gazette notifies that the following lands in thia district have been excepted from the operation of section 117 of “ The Native Land Court Act, 1904 ” :—5OO acres, Pirongia West -No. bB, section 2o ; 25 acres, Kinohaku West F, section Ib, No. 2a. On Saturday last a meeting of guarantors of tbe Kawhia Hack Racing Club was held in Mr E. C. Falwasser’s oftca, when about a dozen gentlemen were in attendance, ftjtr E, A. Dance presiding, Mr Gosling, the secretary, presented a balanee sheet of the recent races, which showed a credit balance of £8 14s Bd, The balance sheet wa.4 adopted, and the meeting than closed.
