Oparau.
>bom ova own cqbbbsponiiknt. The weather cannot be beaten, and in consequence the bush is now dry enough bo burn again. Mr Ciarson had a good burn last Sunday. Messrs Symons and Co. burn ad some splendid lime last week, wbioh was used in the work of building in their boiler. I believe that it is much superior to any yet found in the district. I bear that bituminous coal indications have been found outcropping on a new burn at Oparau. Mr W. Howe's mill has about run Ont of timber. Symons and Co. will have their new 40 b.p. boiler built in l>y Wednesday (loth), after which '. they have the vertical or breaking down beneb to put up. When this is . completed the firm will be able to deliver first class timber at Gage’s corner at the water’s edge. (»OM a CORRESPONDENT.) Several times recently I have been asked as to the truth of the rumour that a batter factory is to be established here next year. I should like it generally known that the project - has been hung up for another twelve mouths. Fine weather, good burns, and grass seed sowing are about the most interesting topics of conversation here nOWfJ'even cricket is not spoken of since the reversal our boys had last Saturday. On Saturday last a 'meeting of settlers was held in the school room. . when about a dozen residents were present, Mr Armstrong, sr, occupying the chair, The county boundaries wpre discussed, and it was decided that the main Kawhia-Waipa road bo the boundary, and that all sections abutting on the road be taken in: also, that a small portion of tbe Raglan County, near Pirongia, be annexed. The meeting was not a very unanimous one. A proposal to ask the 'Moyal Commission on tbe land question to take evidence in Kawhia was also put forward, but was ridiculed by one or two present, and the subject was thus allowed to drop. My opinion to that the boundaries will be fixed by Sir J. G. Ward, and all I cau say is that it “ serves 'em right.”-
