Axesmen's Carnival.

It wu estimated that the attendance on the opening day at New Plymouth was 8000 spectators. The following are the principal events The Maiden Chop, 15in, -was won by Beck in 1.46. The N.Z. Champion Chop, of £26, 9ft, was won by Gus Blano (of Victoria), D. Pretty 2, C. Casey 8, Goold 4. Seven others competed. The winner finishing BOsecs in front of the next Alan, till time recorded was 6.84 2-6. The previous beet time for the championship wu done in 1901, 0. W. Casey, 6.61. The Underhand Chop was won by M. McDonald, Beck 2, Dard 8. Time 2.16 6th for 18in log, the winner having 26s start. The Single-handed Sawing Handicap was a poor exhibition, only Casey and Volzke competed, the former won easily. On the second day there were ilose on 1500 people present. The principal events were ; The N.Z. Axeman’s Cup, £9O, 18in bleaks was won by Johnston of Dannevirke, with 66sec start, Beardsley, from the same place, wu second, Bertko 2nd, Blano third.

The Boy's Chop wu won by H. Tremain easily beaten C Fred Bowman. Al" The S.H. Sawing PSaampionsbip wsa won by Goold, Volzke 2, Casey 8.
