FIRE AT MANUNUI.

BOX FACTORY DESTROYED. ELLIS AND BUKNANDS' MILL. [NY TEI.EfinWK. —VIU.SS ASSOCI VL'ION.] Taumarunui, This Day. Messrs Ellis and Burnand's box factory at Manunui was burned down early this morning. TIIO (ire was observed by the watchman at :? a.m. He blew the mill whistle to five the* alarm. The mill officials ami men turned out quickly, and worked hard to save the factory. Water from the Taumarunui high pressure mains was used and the fire was prevented from spreading to the adjoining mill. The damage ia estimated at about £20,000, and includes five hundred thousand feel of dressed white pine ready for shipment; butter boxes, fruii cases, etc. Also a very valuable machine, Lindenumn'B dove - tail jointer. About thirty men, moßtly young and unmarried, will bo thrown out of employment. The amount of insurances has not yet been ascertained. The fire among the timber, and box factory is still burning, but large stacks of timber in the yard are safe. The factory supplied many dairy companies throughout the Dominion with all their boxes. Four years ago a very similar tire occurred and destroyed a former box factory on the same cite.
