BIRMINGHAM'S QUEER TRADES.
As a city of queer trades Birmingham holds <i unique position. For example, it is tho principal source of the world's supply of jew' harps, and for the past sixty years the trade has been carried on in a venerable quarter of tho city. In regard to police whistles, it Is known that one Birmingham firm just outside the jewellery .quarter has equipped more police forces in all parts af the world than any other firm. Great quantities are sent to the United States, as well as to South America, India Canada, and the colonics. Handcuffs, manacles, and other instruments of detention have for many years been a specialty of Birmingham manufacture.
