Mr L. G. P. Spencer, of Te Kuiti, hag been appointed waterworks engineer for Dargaville, Northern Wairoa, in connection with installing a water supply for the town. The Commodities Board at Melbourne has decided, in view of the high prices of flour, that 9d a loaf in the inner suburbs and lOd a loaf in the outer suburbs are not unfair prices for bread. The Board has fixed the maximum wholesale prices of apricot and gooseberry jams at 8s ?.d, mixed apricot and pineapple at 8s 6d, and plum at 7s 3d per dozen 21b tins. A fire which occurred on Tuesday last destroyed the residence of Mr J. H. Thomas, at Rangitoto. It is believed the outbreak was caused by a quantity of turpentine and bees wax boiling over on the hearth. The bouse waß insured in the State office for £6O, and the furniture for a similar amount. Much sympathy ia felt for Mr Thomas, who is a heavy loser by the fire.
