THE RUSSIAN ADVANCE.
CROSSING THE CARPATHIANS. Petrograd, Sunday. An official communique states:— Fighting continues in the forests north of Pilkallen and Glumbinnen, in East Prussia. German attacks in the Bcrzimow district, on the left bank of the Vistulc, were repulsed with heavy loss to the enemy. Progress in the Dupkla region of the Carpathians has been maintained, despite a desperate, resistance by the Austrians, except in the Beskid Pass, where the Russian advance guard fell back. The Russians, during the past three days, capturted in this region 60 officers, 2400 soldiers, three heavy guns, and ten machine guns.
