KAISER AT THE FRONT.
SHORT GERMAN TRIUMPH. FRENCH RECOVER TRENCHES. Received this day, 10.10 a.m. Paris, Friday. The Kaiser early in the week witnessed a fierce attack at Blagny. The French withstood a shower of grenades, but yielded to German bayonets, Trench after trench was taken and the Germans exultingly paraded four abreast into the suburb of Arras.
The triumph was short-lived. French Territorials and gunners ceased to retreat. They fortified a wrecked factory and opened a murderouß fire with cannon and machine guns. The nearest Germans were overwhelmed. The others dropped their weapons and fled demoralised.; The French recovered all the lost ground. The Kaiser, on a white horse caparisoned with purple, angrily stepped into a motor car and went to Lille.
