FIGHTING IN ALSACE. Received this day, 9.15 a.m. Paris, Friday. A communique states the enemy bombarded Nieuport with conEiiderable violence. We slightly progressed eastward of Lombaertzyde causeway. Our artillery fire was effective between Ypres and the Oise against earthworks and batteries.

The enemy retook portion of tha trenches at Bors-le-Pretre we captured on Wednseday. The German batteries at Schlucht Were silenced. Extremely fierce infantry engagements and hand-to-hnd struggles are being wages in Hartmann and Sweilerkopf in Alsace.
