AWAKINO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held at Pio Pio on Saturday, January 9 th.- There were present—Cra Baddy, chairman, Old, Kelly, Patterson, Thorns and Tweedie. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was received from the Department of Public in connection with subsidies on special •loans; the expending, of the grant on the Mahoenui-Marokopa road; the Turipoto rusd deviation; the application of the County for a special grant on the Mangakokopu road; and the application of the Council for a speciargranfc on the lower Waikawau road. From the Minister of Marine advising that the resident engineer, Stratford,, would inspect ths landing at North Bay, Waikawau, and report on same to the Council. On the motion of Crs Tweedie and Kelly the clerk was instructed to forward to Mr Iredale, the engineer's estimate of the cost of covering in the drain at Awafiino, asking him to authorise tha Council to fill in the drain at his expense. On the motion of Crs Thoms and Kelly the clerk was instructed to write to the Minister' for Public Works and to theresident engineer, 'Stratford* asking why provision has been made- for a bridge over the Mangaohaa stream on the MuhoenuiMarokopa road and no provision made fos; a bridge over the Mangaohae stream on the Pomarangei road, ihe Council being of tha opinion that thd bridge on the Pomarangei road ia of roach, greater importance to the district than the one on tha MarokopaMahoenai road. . .. On the motion Crs Kelly and Thoms it was resolved that the chairman, engineer, and the clerk draw up a s£t of by-lawa to be submitted, to th 6 -next meeting for consideration. On the motion of Crs Boddy and Old ths clerk's salary was raised to £l'6o per annum. The following tenders were received for Contract No. 3: —F. C. Stokes £639 9s 6d, N. C. Innes £554 8a 6d, H. Rothery £6ll 14s 9d, J. Woulcies £652 3s 9d, J. Todd £623 19s 6d. On the motion of Crs "Patterson and Old it was resolved that Mr N. C. Innes' tender be accepted. On the motion of Crs Boddy and Thoms it was resolved vto pay the Waitomo County Council £lO for work done on the portion of the lower Mangaotaki. road in tha Awakino County. •The next meeting of the Council will be held at Pio Pio on Saturday, February 6th, at 2 p.m.
