ALLEGED BREACHES OF ACT.

THE CASES DISMISSED,

At the Te Kuiti Magistrate's Court, yesterday, the charges against J. JB. Young, alleging breaches of tha Legislature Act, in respect to the enrolment of electors, were further heard. Mr J. B. Sharpies appeared for the defendant.

In repect to the case in whieh judgment was reserved last Court day, Mr Rawson, S.M,. said he had to uphold the contention raised by defendant's solicitor, and the case would be dismissed. The further charge of having obtained possession of a claim for enrolment, signed by one Walter Corkill, for the purpose of being delivered to the Registrar for enrolment, and having failed to deliver the said claim, was heard. Inspector Wright conducted the prosecution and Mr Sharpies appeared for defendant.

Evidence was given by W. Corkill last Court day to the effect that he signed a form in the shop of Mr Hacket, tailor, and defendant was to deliver the same to the Registrar. The defence was to the effcet that the form was not signed. When it was being filled in by defendant a discussion on politics arose, during the course of which defendant discovered that Corkill favoured the Reform candidate. Defendant then destroyed the enrolment form and told Corkill there waß an office further along the street which would put him on the roll. Evidence to this effect was given by defendant and G. P. Aldridge, who was present with the others at the time.

In reply to the Inspector, Mr Aldridge stated defendant had not received any money from him on behalf of the Liberal Party for defendant's efforta in connection with the election.

His Worship said, on the evidence, the charge must be dismissed. A further charge against defendant Was withdrawn.
