Very few of this season's lamb are to hand, and they are Belling slowly at 7d. Beef.—Beef is in fair demand for the, better grades, and a limited demand for poorer grades. The market is firmer, on account of purchaf?es_ for the Government. New Zealand hinds 6 5 16d, fores 5Jd; Of chilled there is a ilmited supply. Hinds 7£d, fores 51d. Butter. —The market is firm, with an upward tendency. There is a good demand for colonial butters. Danish is quiet at from 150s to 154s per cwt; New Zealand from 138s 1o 140s; Australian 134s to 138s; Siberian is firm, and there is a good demand at 126s to 132 a; Argentine 134s to 1375. Cheese.—The market is steady, and prices.are. well 'maintained. Canadian white and coloured is firm and quiet at 78s to -79s per cwt. New Zealand white and coloured is firm at 76s to 77e. The estimated stocks of Canadian cheese no January Ist amounted to 160 000 boxes, as against 223,000 boxes at the same time last year.
