ENGLISHMEN IN CHAINS.
PRISONERS AT DAMASCUS. Rome, Sunday. An Italian steamer which has returned from India reports that there is the greatest enthusiasm at Calcutta, and everyone is confident of victory in Egypt. Advices from Beirut state that all the French ami Greek residents have been sent to Damascus under police supervision. Two Englishmen who attempted to escape from Beirut ware reirioved to Damacus in chaina.
