LOSS OF THE FORMIDABLE.
LORD BERESFORD'S CRITICISM.
London, Thursday. Lord Charles Beresford, in a letter to the press, says:—-The Formidable Was lost under conditions, the repetition of which, after the loss of the Aboukie and Creasy was thought impossible. In both cases the ships were sent into waters infested by submarines unprotected by destroyers. The efficacy of such protection was shown by the fact that submarines were unable to injure the British squadron operating off the Belgian oast. It was unpardonable that officers and crews should be exposed to such peril. AN INQUIRY DEMANDED. Received Friday, 9.40 p;m. London, Friday. The Morning Pont is supporting Lord Charles Bereaford's protest against sending battleships to sub-marine-infested water?, without pro« tecting destroyers. It demands an inquiry.
