WEDDING AT OPARURE.

LARGE MAORI GATHERING,

A ""great amount of interest centred round a wedding which was solemnised at Oparure on Sunday afternoon last. The contracting parties were Whitinui Jonoplis, son of the wellknown Maori chieftain, Whitinui, of Te Kumi, and Miss Tera Anaru Eketone, eldest daughter of Mr Anaru Eketono. The bride svaa attended by Misses L. Hctct, Puhi, Te Aorsngi Eketone, Queenie Searanoke, and M. Jones. Takewe was best man and Mr W. Anderson was also in attendance on the bridegroom. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Hone Harris in the presence of a large gathering of both Maoris and Europeans, and was of on impressive character. After the ceremony the large company was entertained at breakfast, the Europeans|being epeci- , ally provided for in a decorated marquee. The catering, which wa§ in the hands of, Whitinui and Mr and Mrs Whare Hotu, wau of a high order, and was highly appreciated. Addresses of welcome was made by Messrs John Ormsby and H. Hetet, * and responded to on behalf of itae visitors by Mr F. B. Darrow. V The marriage is the result of an old-standing Mgreement between £tae heads of the two families concerned, and the wedding in European *tyie is due to a special request of the late Mrs Pepene Eketone, who VII >, closely related to the bride. . . *i
