BOWLS.
Two teams from the Te Kuiti Club visited Te Aroba for the New Year Tournament, and both performed remarkably. The team skipped by Cochrane only sustained one loss in the section play, being defeated by Carlton, the runners-up in the the team skipped by Matthew was orly half a point behind in the section play. Excellent farm waa shown throughout, a pleasing feature of the play being the really good form shown by the younger players. Rowell, as lead, was equal to anything in the tournament, while the same caxi be said about Stevens, who%playad lead for Cochrane, this player, if anything, being the mora consistent, while his leading in the pairs tourna-ment-was also consistently good. In the pairs the Te Kuiti players performed remarkably well, Matthew and Stevens being seen to advantage, while Rowell and Howarth went through the majority of their opponents in workmanlike style. They were a trifle over-confident. in one game, and almost paid the penalty in consequence, but steadied down towards the finish and emerged after a nerve-racking experience with a win to their credit. These are th« experiences which make the finished bowler. The Te Aroha tournament is always regarded as a holiday fixture to -be made the most of in that respect. Quite a number of ladies were present in the various parties, and the social side of bowling was strongly manifested. The Carlton and other Auckland bowlers entertained the Te Kuiti players and friends at a launch trip on the river, Messrs . Hill, Laurie, Langsford and others doing their utmcst to mske the outing pleasurable to all concerned. In response to Mr expression of thanks on behalf of the Te Kuitians Mr Laurie took the opportunity of stating the occasion was merely" some appreciation for the manner in which the Auckland players had been entertained at the Te Kuiti tournament. The Te Kuiti Club will be repre sented at the Dominion tournament, which begins on Monday. MesErs Williamß, Matthew, Cochrane, and Power will again represent the club in the full rink competition, while Julian is engaged in the singles and pairs competitions. The club president is showing excellent form just now and should render a good account of himself.
