OPARURE SCHOOL PICNIC.

A very successful picnic was held in the grounds of the above school on Tuesday of last week,' and was much enjoved by the settlers, Maoris and children alike. A poarka tau was held by the parents of the native children, who assembled in large numbers to partake of the succulent pork and new potatoes. Races were indulged in by the children, who all received toys. The thaikß of the committee are due to all residents of Te Kuiti and Oparure for the liberal contributions of money and presents. The following children received prizes:—Standard VI.: Harold Timbers. Standard V.: Anderson Katu. LUlian Mayes. Standard IV,: William Thompson, Naku Hohepa. Standard II.: Pohe Katu. Standard I. : Turora Huiatahi, Teno Matetu, Herbert Gadsby, Karira Mateugs. Primers : Fangi Tamp, Wikitoria Whilikau, Fuariia Puhi. Conduct: Paki Puhi. Needlework: Narina IJoliepa, Rnkuruku Tamo. Drawing Leonard Timbers, Mokn Fepi. Gardening: Herbert Timbers, Torn Frew. Special: Nos-e Hare. The prizes vers prejented by the Rev. Mr Beattie, of Te Kuiti, who afterwards addressed the children and called for three cheers for Mr and Mrs Timbers, the teachers. Cheers were aho given for the rev. gentleman, who is very papular at Oparure. The translation into Maori of the prize-list was done by the chairman of the School Committee, Kia Katu, who worked hard helping to organize the very successful function which it is hoped will become an annual institution
