WAITANGURU.

Own Correspondent,

In the report of the social to Mr and Mrs Ralph I must regretfully confssa. to having made an unintentional omission in that I failed to submit the summary of the important part added to the evening's enjoyment by Mr Pratt. During the intervals Mr Pratt rendered numerous selections from his splendid Columbia graphophone, and these effected much in preventing the intrusion of monotony. His generous endeavours to augment the pleasantness of the evening was assuredly greatly appreciated by all prepent; so much, I feel certain, that we all hop?, on some future occasions to be favoured with a repetition of Mr Pratt's kindneea, Election day—the day of decision and the revealer of obscurities —has come and gone. To some it has been the messanger of chserful news; to others a despatch burdened with disappointment. Excitement was not less intense here than in other placeß. Enthusiasm and fervour pervaded the interests of the people of this district, and many of them unxiously awaited the return at night to ascertain what success met the candidates and ssues, for whom and which they had cast their vate. Diversity of opinion is very frequently audible, and the air surrounding factory, farm, cow yard or home is infectious with "politicil bacteria."
