ENGINEER'S REPORT. Sines rcaking my last report a considsrable amount of work has been done and includes, besides other works, 17 miles of m-italling and one and three-quarter miles of formation. The following ore the roads on which the principal works have been -carried out :™Miro?.huiao to Matiers: On this read a • distance cf 17 chains was metal ie:?, under the contract- let to L. Garinson —Mangakowhai: A distance of 75 chains was metalled on this road, including some necessary re-for-mation. —Miroa: On thi3 road Mr Lewis has completed a distance of about 70 chains of metalling and ia supplying good metal. Tenders are to hand for consideration for metalling the remainder of this road, a distance of 234 chains—Pungarehu: Since last meeting Mr Tarry msde a start with hia metalling contract, and has completed a distance of about 40 chains. Mr Innes i 3 now getting hia cruahing plant in position for his contract, and expects to start crushing in a few days.—Hauturu: On this road Mr Rothery completed daring the month a distance of about 30 chains of metalling, leaving another 40 chains yet to be dune —Pukearuhe: Mr Innes has now practically completed hia contract on this road. The total length ot road metalled under this contract is 172 chains, about 60 chains of which waa completed s : nce my last report. —Waited: About 60 chains of metalling has been completed since my last report, which leaves about a mile yet to do to complete the contract now in hand. About 40 chains of dray road formation through Mr Gillanderß' section Was also completed. — Mangaorino: A freßh start was made by Mr Hoffman on this road, and a distance of one mils 10 chains was completed, leaving another mile yet to be done. —Oamaru road: About 10 chains cf metalling waa completed on this road. —Hauturu to Otorohanga: About 40 chains of re-metal-ling along Richardson's hill on this road was also completed. —Waipapa road: Mr Hirfkson has now completed his contracton this road, which included 34 chains of widening and metalling.—Otcrohanga to Otewa: The metalling of this road for the distance originally proposed, viz., 7 miles 23 chains, was completed since my last report, but as there -was a balance of money etill unspent, a further distance of 83 chains was also undertaken making a total distance of 8 milfS 4 chains completed under the loan and subsidy. The distance completed since my last report is 4 miles 24 chains. —Otorohanga to Ouruwhero: Mr Kothey made a start with his metalling contract and has completed about one and a-quarter miJes. —Rio Kio: Messrs Smjth and Mernin have now completed about five and aquarter miles of metalling on the roads in included in their contract, under this ite-ro, leaving two and aquarter yet to be done. The distance completed since my last report is 4 miles 70 chains.—Osven road: About 40 chains of widening has now been completed by Mr Mellow on this road. Ohiao: The formation contract let to D. Brady which extended a distance of 34| chains, ha 3 been completed. One 20ft span sawn timber bridge was also built on this road. — Rotokotuku: Mr MeOoll has finished his widening contract on this road, which extended a distance of 67 chains. —Waihohonu: Nikora and party have now completed 25 chains of formation on this road, and Bhould complete contract at an early date. Waipa river bridge: The approaches to this bridgß are now nearing completion, and should be finished in about eight or ten days, weather permitting.—General: I have had the road between Otorohanga and Hangatiki rounded up with the grader, and have it now at work on various roads on the north end of the county. As soon as these are completed I propose doing up the Ngapaenga road and putting it in good order throughout.—E. R. Gould, County Engineer.
