BOWLS.

Arrangements for the fortncoming tournament promoted by the Te Kuiti Bowling Club are well in -hand and with a reasonable number of entries coming to band on Monday, matters will be in train for a most enjoyable time. Until the entry list is closed it is uncertain Low i/iany local teams will take part, but two good teams should be en hand to uphold the club's prestige. It is now practically certain the club's recognised representative team, consisting cf Williams, Matthew, Cochrane, and Power, will plßy together and this, combination should do fairly well. Mr -A. Julian, the club president, is also, entering a team, and is likely to have a strong rink. Unfortunately, the combination, known as the Cambride team,, cculd not be got together in consequence of the players being unable to afford the necessary _ time. It was also recognised that it was not desirable to produce the full strength of the club at a local tournamenf, and the combination will be reserved for foreign engagements. The club members are beginning to take an interest in the trophy games, and thß challenge medal presented by the president changed hands this week, Julian winning it from Steel Further games for the challenge buckles and ferns are also mooted, and as soon as th 9 tournament is over there will be keen competition for the trophies, A matter in which the club has been somewhat lax was dealt with at the last committee meeting, when Mr A. E. Rowell drew attention to the lack of a competition for first year players. On the motion of Mr Rowell it was resolved to inaugurate a Colts' competition, and th 9 mover offered to donate a medal for this year's competition, the offer being accepted with thanks.
