POINTS OF MILKING COW.

The noints of a good milking cow" vary in different breeds somewhat, and a good deal in different" people's estimation. In such hstds, say, as Shorthorns and South Devons, our biggest dairy breeds, they would ran as follows, roundly speaking:—A fairly long head but not too narrow across the forehead; expanding nostrils, bold, „but kind eyes, mellow home, not over long or thick: slender breedy neck, well set into the shoulders; not heavy Bhoulders, full chine, wide sprung, deep ribs and plenty of them, strong loin, wide hips, open rumps, fairlv full buttocks, full flank when cow i 3 in high condition, roomy bag, squarely set teats, rather long and slender than short and thick;, well developd milk veins, not over wide briskt, rather fine bone in not ovpr short legs, mellow hide, pleasant to the touch and loose on the carcase, and withal a sprightly carriage, stopping short of any display of"abnormal nervousness. To all this should be added a good appetite and correspondingly goo i digestive powers. Such are points in a dairy cow, whieh are to be esteemed, and indicate that she is not only a free milker but a good breeder, too, wit something for the butcher in the latter end. But it does not follow, that these are show ponts. ■
