LAWN TENNIS.
The annual meeting of the King Country Lawn Tennis Assoiation was held Taumariinui on Frida,y of las? week, when ths following (.oefflcers were elected: —President, Dr Howard; vice-presidents, G. L. Winger, Tail marunui, S. M. Kelso, T9 Kuiti,' S. Lorking,- Kakahi, K. S. Wells, Qngame, T. Milne, ManunM, and W. M. Buck.MangapehJ; secretary, A. E. Mc Cracken; treasurer. J. Gray. The financial statement showed a credit of balance at date of 5s Id, and this was considered satisfactory. The report showed two Howard Shield matches having been played during the last, season, the first being won by Manga-f pehi and the -second by Taumarunui, thus giving the latter club possession of the Howard Shield. Of the two outside matches played against Hamilton and Auckland, the - King Country was only succsesful in winning seven matches to seventeen against the former and two matches to ten against the latter. To encourage play during the coming season it was decided to challenge Hamilton and Auckland to play return matches at Taumaruniii beforn Christmas, the arrangements being left in the hands of the secretary. Messrs Rosa Kelso and McCracken were elected a committee to Select King Couctry teams for the season, After discussion upon the rules governing ths Howard Shield matches it was decided to amend them to allow the holders to defend their title no their own courts providing the courts were playable. Where only one playabls court was available it was decided to play the ladies' singles, doubles and combined doubles, the best of 17 games instead of three sets, so as to enable the matches to be completed in one day. The Mangapehi and Kakahi clubs met in a friendly match on Saturday last at Matigapsehi, the former winning eight out of nine matches. Apended are the scores, Mungaapehi players being mentioned first:—Buck and Seymour v. Lorking and Brabner, 9-8; McCraken and Miss Johnson v. Lorking and Miss Basß, 9-6; Shaw and Mis-s McCracken v. Brabner and Mrs Brabner, 9-2; Seymour and Miss McCrcken v. Brabner and Miss Bass, 6-23; McCracken v. Lorking, 9-5; Buck v. Lorking, 6-4; Shaw v. Brabnre, 5-9; Miss Johnson v. Mias Ba3s, 9-2; Mesdames Gray and Manle'v. Mrs Brabner and Mias Bass, 6-4. At a meeting of the Mangapehi Tennis Club the Taumarunui, Tennis Club was invited to send a team along for a friendly-match on October 31st, and at the same time a challenge was lodged for a Shield match on November the 7tb.
