BOWLS AND CROQUET.

— &**&■ OPENING OF SEASON. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The official opening of the Te Kuiti buwling'and croquet greens for the season took place on Monday and, favoured with excellent weather, a highly enjoyable day was Bpent on the greens. Visitors were present from Te Awamutu, Taumarunui, and Cambridge and the local membera attended in force. A few games were indulged in during the morning, and afte* witnessing the Labour Day procession the members and visitors assembled in the afternoon to take part in the official opening. Mr A. Julian, president of the club, was unfortunately unable to ba present ow,ing to the indiposition of Mrs Julian, and Mr* M. J. Jones, vice-president, madß a short speech suitable to the occasion. He extended a cordial welcome to the visitors and referred to the increased membership of both Bowling and Crqquet Clubs. At, the request of the president Mrs A. B. Jordan rulled the first jack, and play waa started en the various rinks. The green wa3 in excellent order, and an enjoyable afternoon was spent. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies and was much appreciated. At the conclusion of play, Messrs Lawrie, Te Awamutu, Clark, Taumarunui, and Carr, Cambridge, returned thanka on behalf of the visitors and called ipr cheers for the Te Kuiti Club. Cheers were also given for the ladies, and the absent president.
