HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. Wellington, Monday. The High Commissioner has cabled the following list of prices current in London on October 17tb. The quotations, unless otherwise specifiied, are the average market prices on spot:— Mutton : The market remainß firm. There is little demand as thß result ot heavy arrivals. Home-grown and Canterbury, s£nd; North Island, sfd; ewes, 51d. Lamb: The market is dull and very little business is doing. Home-grown is plentiful. Canterbury, twos, 6 1316d; heavyweight, 6|d; other than Canterbury, 6fd, for lightweight. Beef: The market is not quite so firm, as the result of heavy arrivals of chilled and Irish. New Zealand hinds, 6 £d; fores, s|d; chilled hinds, sj£d; fores, s§d. Butter: The market is quiet, but firm. Danish is slow at 142s to 1465; Siberian, fair demand, 120s to 1245; Australian, fair demand, 124 a to 128s; Irish creamery, quiet, 126s to 1345; Argentine, steady, 120s to 1245. Cheese: The market is quiet but firm. Canadian white and coloured, 76s to 775; English, for which there is more inquiry, 76s to 84s. Wool: The market has advanced for merino, owing to Bhort supply, and is very firm for crosbreeds at higher prices. Current Bradford quotations for tops are: 36' a low crossbreds 17|d; 40s', low crosbrseds, 18£ d; 44's, medium crossbreds, 19gd; sU's, halfbreds, 24d; 56's, quarterbred, 26d.
